Alopecia or hair loss is becoming a growing trend in the ageing population of the world. In America alone, according to the American Hair Loss Association, approximately 85% of the men’s population and 43% amongst women suffer from significant thinning of hair that is hair loss. A quarter of these men and 12% of women see the signs and symptoms of hair loss even before they reach the age 25. Hair loss can happen in many forms, types and diseases but the collective medical term to it is alopecia. There are many factors which causes alopecia and various researches are already being conducted in order to further understand it and augment the problems that are happening on the ground.

Causes and Risk Factors Of Hair Loss

In order to fully understand alopecia’s treatment, one must be able to know its causes. Also, for those who aren’t experiencing it yet, it would be wise to research and read about this subject matter beforehand in order to prevent suffering in the later years. After all, prevention is better than cure. Alopecia can be caused by several factors and a compelling research has concluded that it can also be hereditary.

One of the leading causes of hair loss is the lack of air supply or “breathability” of our hair. This often happen to men who always wear caps wherever they go. Since the hair is always covered, there is no way for the scalp to receive air, hence, the hair starts dying off. Another risk factor is the excessive use of chemicals in one’s hair. This includes shampoo, hair gel, and spray net and wax. It isn’t necessarily bad to use these things however if used regularly and at large quantities, it can already be harsh to the scalp hence promoting hair loss. Or the most common reason perhaps is that it being hereditary. You just can’t do anything about it. Once you have it, you already have it. When it runs in the family already, the best you can do is consult the doctor while it is still early and that signs are still starting to emerge. But all of these symptoms only show up in the later years of our life. Usually at age 40 and up do we only experience the effects of our own actions. Hence we might think that using excessive chemicals isn’t really that bad since we do not experience the immediate effect, but wait until you get to the later years and you’ll see the effects of the chemicals you have been applying.

Of course, this isn’t to strike fear into your hearts. This serves as a warning that at the very least you should moderate the use of chemicals as early as possible. Caring for your hair now is better than resorting into various treatments later. After all, prevention is always better than the cure.

But sometimes, hair loss can be caused by chemotherapy. We are very sorry for this condition. But this is just a normal side effect of chemotherapy. But the thing is, you don’t need to really worry about it if that’s the case. We would be more than willing to support you all the way if you are undergoing chemotherapy right now. Having experienced hair loss himself, Fanny Serrano admits feeling insecure as soon as he started losing hair at the age of 40. According to Serrano, It’s as if two cats had fought all night and in the aftermath shed their fur when he wakes up in the morning. It took an hour to fix himself to cover up his baldness which resulted to him being late in several appointments. He also used a lot of hair products, hats and bandannas to cover-up baldness.

Unlike any other chemically based hair loss shampoos, Novuhair products do not contain harmful chemicals that usually are the culprit to premature balding aside from aging. Natural products are safe to use as they treat hair without killing hair follicles. While there are no known contraindications to Novuhair Herbal Conditioner, users are pre-cautioned against use in cases of sensitivity to the ingredients.

Novuhair herbal products are only for topical use and may not be ingested. There are also several treatments for hair loss and most of these are drugs with known side effects. Hair Transplant

Hair & Hair Loss

A hair grows out of follicles which invigilate in the epidermis into the dermis. It is made up of protein. Hair grows anywhere in our body except the soles of our feet and hands. It is part of the beauty of a person. A well-kept hair signifies a well-kept being and personality too. Our hair defines our personality and health.

Average hair loss per day is 100 strands of hair. Our hair follicle has a life cycle. It degenerates by the influence of age, disease like cancer, chemicals and others. As we age, our hair grows slowly.

I will explain the different types of hair loss or alopecia.

Alopecia Areata – this is an autoimmune disease which the immune system of the person prevents the hair follicle from producing hair fibers. This is only temporary. There is no definite diagnostic test to detect alopecia areata. The signs and symptoms of this disease are hair loss that usually 90% baldness and patients may complain of tingling sensation and pain on the site. In some affected individuals, return of hair appears after a year.

Alopecia Totalis – This type of hair loss is in advance stage which results to total hair loss in the scalp.

Traction Alopecia – this hair loss is caused by physical stress and tension to the hair like combing every minute, tying your hair too tight and applying too much chemicals. This is just temporary and normal.

Alopecia Universalis – This type of hair loss causes all body hair to fall out (eyelashes, eyebrows, armpit and pubic hair).

Telogen Effluvium – this type of hair loss is temporary. It only causes thinning over the scalp which happens because of changes in hair growth cycle.

Trichotillomania – this type of hair loss can be seen in children. This is a psychological disorder that a person pulls out his hair.

Involutional Alopecia – this type of hair loss is natural in such a way that our hair as we grow becomes thin. Our hair follicles go through a resting phase which makes our hair thinner and shorter.

Some hair loss is caused by emotional stress, hormonal changes, medications and thyroid abnormalities.

Treatment

Treatment of hair loss depends on the cause of hair loss – it may be due to alopecia areata, alopecia totalis, alopecia universalis, involutional alopecia, etc.

In alopecia areata, no cure has been identified. Even hair transplant will not work with this condition because they call this disease as recipient dominant which means that even though you undergo hair transplantation with this condition, it will not still be effective because there is no potential for hair growth.

Some conditions, on the other hand, are prescribed with hair growing shampoos or shampoos for hair fall. For some instance where hair growing shampoos or hair fall shampoos are not effective, they are advised to undergo hair transplant.

Overview of Hair Transplant?

Hair transplant is a surgical procedure that improves the hair condition to improve baldness. This procedure moves hair from thick area growth to bald areas. This is to improve confidence from a person who is depressed due to bald scalp. This does not create new hair; it only transfer or moves hair to the bald area this is why this is not effective to other conditions like alopecia areata.

This can be done in doctor’s clinic. For some doctors they have a special room for hair transplantation. Only doctors who are specialized in this field like a dermatologist can do hair transplantation.

Before you decide to undergo this procedure, the advantages and disadvantages will be explained by your doctor. Once you have agreed with your doctor, you will be scheduled for your procedure.

This is a surgical procedure so an anesthesia will be given. The anesthesia will help you to relax for you not to feel any pain while the procedure is ongoing. You will be the one donating your hair. An area in your scalp that produces hair will be incised using a scalpel knife 0 this is called the donor area. Each hair is removed individually then will be transplanted into the bald areas of your scalp. Then it is cleaned and the procedure is done.

Post operation procedures will be explained to you by your doctor like instructions on what you are going to do with your new transplanted hair and medications you need to take such as pain medication and antibiotics. The whole procedure will take about an hour up to two hours.

In every surgical procedure, there are really risks. In hair transplantation, risks are only minimal. These are infections, possible bleeding and scarring. Not all hair transplantation is very successful, successful in such a manner that what outcome you really expected will be the outcome after the procedure. The result of the hair transplant will be seen many months after the surgical procedure. For some, it will take them more than one procedure to be effective.

The cost of hair transplant depends on your chosen doctor who will perform your hair transplant. It varies from each doctor, the hospital and the country where you will undergo hair transplant. The more expert the doctor is, the more expensive the cost of the transplant is. Usually, hair transplant price ranges from $550-$800 per session.

Lasers and LED lights are now being used for a variety of purposes, from treating skin disorders to eliminating unwanted hair. But, one recent use of lasers has been in regard to laser hair treatment and increasing hair growth in men with male pattern baldness.
