LLLT: The Power of Light

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Male-pattern_hair_loss can affect about 70% of men and 40% of women at some point of their life. Typically, men presents with a distinctive alopecia pattern which involves vertex balding and recession of hairline while women normally shows diffuse thinning of hair at the top of their scalp. Losing hair can be a frustrating experience for anyone, it can affect your self confidence and the overall quality of your life. If you are one of those people experiencing Androgenetic Alopecia and Patterned Baldness, I have a good news for you. You now have a lot of treatment options to choose from, and one of them uses the power light.

We biologically react to light every time, the commonly experience this through our eyes which are sensitive to light; our vision depends on the light hitting our retinas and the chemical reaction that allows us to see. We also react to light when we expose ourselves to the heat of the early morning sun, which causes the synthesis of Vitamin D in our skin because sunlight creates biochemical reactions.

Light can also stimulate the melanocytes in our body, proliferating them therefore giving us a brown complexion. Hydrogen peroxide is stored in dark bottles to keep the light of the sun out because it causes chemical degradation. Those are the examples of how light can photochemically affect everything, eventually, through one way or another. And that is also what happens with Photobiomodulation or Low Level Light Therapy used in Hair Restoration Treatments.

Low level laser therapy is different from the laser used in other procedures since it does not induce heat on the tissues like the ones used in aesthetic or surgical procedures. This kind of laser is actually all about photochemical reactions on certain wavelengths.

The compromised cells will have a better response to the photochemical reactions than the healthy ones so that a brief Low Level Laser therapy can induce a chain of complex physiological reactions on damaged tissues to accelerate hair growth, enhance tissue regeneration, hasten wound healing, reduce inflammation and even treat pain.

Low level laser therapy is known as a safe form of light treatment, it has been investigated by different sectors for different kinds of health indication. It is used to treat genetic form of hair loss that can occur to both men and women. LLLT is also known as Red Light Therapy, Cold Laser, Soft Laser, Biostimulation and Photobiomodulation.
